Rules of the Game

Using the number cards from an ordinary pack, deal out five cards to each player. Turn up one more card to reveal the 'target number'. Players race to use their five cards and any of the four operations (+, -, x, / ) to form a statement that results in the target number. The first player to do so wins a point. If, after 3 minutes, no one can find a solution, the players show their hands for checking, then cards are shuffled and play continues.

Algebra  Zombie

Rules of the Game

It is called Zombie Board Game because the zombie represents the biggest single threat to the players.

Landing on a zombie space sends a player back to start.

  1. Roll the dice and count ahead according to the number that shows up.

  2. When a player lands on a space, he/she finds the value of ‘X’ on the space within a determined time.

  3. The instructions on the other spaces are pretty straightforward.

  4. Lose a turn : the player loses a turn to play.

  5. Go forward

  6. Go backward

  7. The zombie is the space no one wants to land on. It is a killer. Landing on the zombie sends the player back to start. Restarting is no fun when your opponent is advancing.

  8. Trade Places : This can be good or bad. The player who lands on this space swaps with the opponent. Trading places with an opponent who is ahead in the game is good. Trading places with an opponent who is behind is no fun.

  9. Finally the last pitfall is towards the end of the game. To finish the game, the player must get the exact number on the dice to END.

If the player has more, the player has to count forward and backwards. For example if a player is at space 31, the player needs to roll and get 4 to finish. If the player has 6 for example, the player counts forward to 4 and 2 backwards to space 33.

Rules of the Game

  • Place the 16 algebra questions so all the questions are visible, put the board with the X and Y circles next to it and find a couple of dice.

  • Each turn any player throws the 2 dice and moves them so that one is in the X circle and one is in the Y circle.
    In the example on the right, x = 1 and y = 6.

  • All players then race to do the maths and find an algebra question that fits.  In this example, x + y = 7 is one possible answer.

  • When you find a suitable card, you grab it.

  • If it's correct, you keep the card.  If it's wrong, then:
    - In a solo game you remove the card from play and add 20 seconds to your time.
    - In a 2 player game, you give the card to the other player.
    - In a 3 or 4 player game, you remove the card from play and can't play on the next go.

  • The dice are then rethrown (only one card is taken per round).

  • Play continues until for any given round all players agree that there's no possible answers to any of the algebra questions that fit with the dice rolls.  At this point, turn the board over (so it's just a blank piece of paper).  For the rest of the game, players can then choose either die roll as x and the other as y.

  • Play stops when there are only 3 algebra questions left untaken.

  • At this point each player counts how many cards they have and the player with the most cards wins.
